Healing Your Past

healing the past ... Dr. Michael Duckett

See below Dr. Duckett’s video to read a synopsis of the 3 steps to healing your past and to read an excerpt of his book “Creating a Life of Freedom.”

When we talk about healing the past, we’re talking about healing the effects things in the past had on your life. We can’t literally go back into the past and change anything, so we have to deal with the present.  The present is the best place to do all the healing if it’s doing the proper way; otherwise you’re just going to keep rehashing the past, going back and re-activating it.

How do you heal the past? By falling in love with your present self. How do you fall in love with yourself? We all know our own imperfections and that can make it difficult to fully accept ourselves as completely loveable, but it can be done.

First: Identify everything you don’t like in your life right now.

Second: Correct the things you don’t like. Or you can accept them as they are. Embrace whatever you are.

If you really don’t like something about yourself, change it! After you become everything you would love to be right now, it’s easier to love yourself. Look at your past as a process of conditioning. It has conditioned you to become the wonderful powerful person you are right now.

Third: Forgive everyone who has done you wrong – including yourself. That’s a biggy right there. Realize that in some way we all contribute to everything in our lives. Maybe we chose to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, or we were around the wrong people. Perhaps we made the wrong decisions. No matter what, we contributed to everything in our lives.

If we contributed, then we have control over it, and we can make sure that it doesn’t happen again. If we didn’t contribute in some way, meaning we aren’t taking some responsibility in some way, then we couldn’t do anything about it. It would have been completely out of our control. This means, we would be subject to repeating it in the future.

You can’t change your past, but you can change the effect the past had on you.

When you come to love yourself in the present, you can look back on everything in the past and accept it because it made you into the person you are today.
